Due to the nature of glass cutting, the cutter must be able to hold the work above their wheel and see through the glass they are cutting. But due to the opaqueness of the black glass, that technique would prove impossible. Instead, the stone cutter of this piece had to hold the work beneath the wheel, ultimately showcasing the technical ability of the cutter.
