A prolific artist in the second generation of the Hudson River School of art, Whittredge painted romantic images of nature. Practicing in plein-air painting, his work showcases the beauty of the natural world. Observing natural details, juxtaposing clear foreground to the hazy sky, Whittredge creates stunning works iconographic of the Hudson River Valley School. Often painting seascapes, particularly this home in Rhode Island, Whittredge showcases his ability to convey intimate views of nature lit by soft sunlight.
