Josefa Filosky was born on June 15, 1933 in Westmoreland City, Pennsylvania. She was born Patricia Filkosky but took the name Josefa when becoming a Sister of Charity of Greensburg. She went to school at Seton Hill College in Greensburg, PA (1955) and later did some training at Carneigie-Mellon University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. From 1959-1999 she served on Seton Hill's Faculty, serving as department chair since 1978.
